Nylon is the world's first synthetic fiber, first mass-produced in Japan by Toray in 1951. Polyamide fiber has many outstanding properties, such as excellent tensile strength, abrasion resistance and chemical resistance, and has good color rendering. Nylon garments include bodysuits, swimsuits, ski suits and underwear; as industrial materials, its applications include tire cord, fishing nets and carpets. Toray holds the largest share of Japan's nylon market.
