Polybenzimidazole (PBI) is the most technologically advanced thermoplastic in our product range. It provides the highest thermal resistance and mechanical retention of any unfilled plastic above 205°C (400°F). It has better abrasion resistance and load carrying capacity in extreme temperatures than any other reinforced or non-reinforced construction plastic.
We market PBI under the trade name Duratron® CU60, which is the highest performance engineering thermoplastic available today.
As a non-reinforced material, Duratron CU60 PBI is very "clean" with respect to ionic contamination and does not outgas (except water). These properties make this material very attractive to vacuum chamber semiconductor manufacturers. Duratron CU60 PBI has excellent ultrasonic transparency, making it ideal for components such as probe tip lenses in ultrasonic measurement equipment.
Duratron CU60 PBI is also an excellent insulator. Other molten plastics will not adhere to Duratron CU60 PBI. These properties make it ideal for contact seals and insulator bushings in plastics production and molding equipment.
